The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the pairings for this year's regional softball tournaments Monday.

And if the Marshalltown Bobcats want to return to Fort Dodge for the second straight year, they will have to do so on the road.

The Bobcats' first game on their journey to the Iowa High School State Softball Tournament will be played in Mason City against the Mohawks at 7 p.m. on July 11. A win in that game would advance MHS (10-14) into the Class 5A Region 4 semifinals against No. 8 West Des Moines Valley on July 13. That game and the regional final on July 16 will be played at West Des Moines Valley's home field.

The other two teams in Region 4 include Southeast Polk and Des Moines Roosevelt.

Marshalltown split a doubleheader against the Mohawks in Marshalltown earlier this year and will play two more games against its Central Iowa Conference Northern Division rivals Mason City before the playoff meeting. The Bobcats also lost two games to Valley in Marshalltown earlier this year and are scheduled to face Southeast Polk at the MHS diamond on Wednesday.

East Marshall and South Tama County will both be in Class 3A Region 7. The No. 4 Mustangs will host Gilbert on July 9 and the Trojans will head to Union-LaPorte City on that same day. Both games start at 7 p.m.

Those two winners will play in Le Grand on July 12 and the regional final will be July 15 in State Center. The other four teams in Region 7 include a Nevada-PCM matchup as well as Roland-Story taking on North Polk.

East Marshall (19-3) beat Roland-Story this past weekend, 5-3, in the annual Bobcat Softball Classic. The Mustangs have also beaten South Tama in two close games and defeated PCM in a 3-2 contest in the second game of the yeah.

The area teams in Class 2A will be separated into two regions, although only No. 7 AGWSR is alone by itself.

The Cougars received a first-round bye and will play the winner of Clarion-Goldfield and Nashua-Plainfield in a July 10 second-round game in Ackley.

The Class 2A Region 3 semifinal will be played in Ackley on July 12. Potential opponents for the Cougars in that game include Aplington-Parkersburg, West Fork and St. Ansgar.

The regional final will be in Waverly on July 15. If AGWSR gets to this point, its most likely opponent will be No. 6 Sumner-Fredericksburg. AGWSR lost the first meeting, 2-1, back at the BCLUW Tournament earlier this season.

Class 2A No. 9 BCLUW, South Hardin, Gladbrook-Reinbeck and West Marshall all will be in Region 6.

The Trojans and Rebels will square off in a first-round game in State Center on July 9, while South Hardin will host Hudson on that same day in Eldora.

The West Marshall/Gladbrook-Reinbeck winner will play at No. 12 Alburnett on July 10 in a second-round game. The Comets also play the winner between Madrid and CMB in Conrad on that day. Those two victors will meet in the regional semifinal in Conrad on July 12.

The South Hardin and Hudson winner will head to No. 8 Jesup on July 10. The other July 10 game on that side of the bracket pits North Tama against the winner of South Hamilton and Colfax-Mingo in Traer. The two winners will then meet in the regional semifinal in Jesup on July 12.

The Region 6 championship game is scheduled for July 15 at Waterloo West.

The final four area teams are Colo-NESCO, Grundy Center, Meskwaki Settlement School and GMG and they will play in Class 1A Region 4.

The Royals and Spartans will meet in Grundy Center on July 8, while the Warriors play at Dunkerton and GMG heads to East Buchanan on that same day.

The Colo-NESCO and Grundy Center winner will take on the Meskwaki and Dunkerton winner in Grundy Center on July 10, while the GMG and East Buchanan victor heads to Gilbertville to play No. 5 Don Bosco at 5:30 p.m. on July 10.

The regional semifinals on July 12 will be played at Don Bosco (5:30 p.m.) and the regional championship game is at Manchester on July 15.

The Iowa High School State Softball Tournament will take place July 22-26, at Harlan Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
