PLEASANT HILL - The Marshalltown freshman baseball team fell to 3-12 this season with a pair of losses at Southeast Polk on Wednesday. The Bobcats fell 13-0 in the five-inning opener and then lost the nightcap 7-2.
In game one, MHS managed three hits. Cody Mead had a double while Mason Huntley and Jordan Smiley added singles. Huntley also stole a base. Dayton Slifer was the losing pitcher, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and six walks.
Smiley suffered the defeat in game two despite not allowing an earned run. He surrendered four hits and four walks, striking out two, but MHS had nine errors.
Slifer and Mead both had two hits, including a double for Slifer, and Ben Snyder was 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored. Mead stole two bases, while Slifer swiped a base and had an RBI.
Drake women's hoops hosting a camp
DES MOINES - The Drake women's basketball program will host its second annual Bulldog College summer camp Aug. 2 beginning at 9 a.m.
The one-day camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and lunch will be provided. Cost is $30 per camper for girls entering grades 9 and above in the fall of 2013.
