MPD warns of possible phone scam

June 28, 2013
Times-Republican

The Marshalltown Police Department on Thursday evening received numerous complaints of a possible phone scam that is currently happening.

The MPD said in a news release that everyone should be reminded to not give out any personal information to unverified people. This includes but is not limited to bank account numbers, social security numbers, name, address, etc.

One complainant reported receiving a text message reading "BANK ALERT: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED." The message then provided a phone number to contact. Please do not respond to similar messages.
