The Marshall County board of supervisors hired Paul Zobel as the new director of buildings and grounds during a special end-of-the-fiscal-year meeting Friday.
Zobel has spent 14 years in the buildings and grounds department for the county. His new duties will include overseeing the operation of the courthouse and the jail. He begins as director July 1 and his annual salary will be $52,000.
"Paul works exceedingly well with everyone at the courthouse and the jail," said Dave Thompson, chair of the supervisors.
Zobel said there are some major projects in the county right now and he looks forward to his new job. Zobel takes over for Todd Kelley, who was terminated by the supervisors on June 7.
In other personnel action, Community Services Director Jill Eaton saw her annual salary increase from $54,742 to $63,000. Eaton's salary is funded through a tax levy, but that tax will not go up as a result of the salary increase.
"It's not hard for me to give her this type of increase," said supervisor Deane Adams.
Adams and supervisor Denny Grabenbauer voted for approval of the pay increase while Thompson voted against it, saying it was too high.
