Angel Duran Guzman, 703 Jackson St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 8. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. If bond is met then Guzman is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office to sign a pre-trial release form. An Immigrations and Customs Enforcement hold has been placed on Guzman. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Erica Velez, 1007 S. Center St., made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 17. Velez is released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to the adult probation office to sign a pre-trial release by the end of work today. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Victor M. Haines, 406 Melody Lane Apt. #1, and of Grinnell, made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 17. Haines was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Jose Jesus Martinez, 922 N. Fifth Ave., made an initial appearance through an interpreter on a public consumption charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Steven Marson, of Haverhill, made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Abdelfarag Salih, 114 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a violation of pre-trial release. The public defender's office will continue representation. The bond will be maintained as originally set.

Chasity Rae Vallejo, 200 E. Church St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today's date.

Emily Margaret Allison, of Omaha, Neb., made an initial appearance through counsel, John Haney, on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge and a driving the wrong way on a one-way street charge. The preliminary hearing was waived. Allison was released on her own recognizance.

Michael Dean Luethje, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public consumption charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of June 25.

Brad Edwards, 809 Bromley St., made an initial appearance on a no insurance or registration on a viscous dog charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Carlos Dominquez Chavero, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for arraignment proceeding charge. The appointment of Mary Cowdrey for counsel will continue. The arraignment hearing is rescheduled for 1 p.m. July 3. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Nicholas Latiker, 519 N. 13th St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a improper brake light charge and a no insurance charge. Upon showing proof of insurance, the violation was dropped with court costs of $60 assessed, due within 30 days of today's date. The public defender's office was appointed to handle the other two charges. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 18. Bond will continue as posted until the conclusion of the case.

Norlene Marie Carmer, 4 E. Marion St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due within 30 days of today's date.

Misty Rodriguez Hernandez, 505 S. Sixth St., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The court condemned the bond to use for payment and will return the remainder.

Molly Rose Long, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a speeding charge and a failure to have a valid driver's license or permit charge. She pleaded guilty to the speeding charge and was fined $80 with a $28 with $60 in court costs for a total of $168, due within 30 days of today's date. She pleaded not guilty to the failure to have a valid driver's license charge and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 6 in Magistrate Court.

Arrests

On June 8, Carl Graham, age 23, of Des Moines, was arrested on Highway 14 north of 270th Street and charged with operating while intoxicated-first offense. He was released on promise to appear.

Accidents

On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Bryce Dall, age 15, of Dike, was northbound on T-55 south of Dike when it struck a deer that entered the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Dall vehicle was estimated at $3,500.

On June 18, a vehicle driven by Jamie Aikey, age 39, of Holland, was westbound on Highway 20 when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the road. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Aikey vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

On May 8, a vehicle driven by Chad Modlin, age 37, of New Hartford, was northbound on Highway 14 south of 170th Street when it went out of control, entered the east ditch, crossed over 170th Street striking a fence, continued north for several yards and then came back onto Highway 14. No injuries were reported. Modlin was cited for operating while intoxicated-third offense. Damage to the Modlin vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

On April 27, a vehicle driven by Trina King, age 44, of Boone, was eastbound on Highway 175 east of I Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the south ditch. No injuries were reported. Damage to the King vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Arrests

On June 21, Christopher McBreantdly Brown, 310 S. 18th Ave., was arrested for serious assault.

On June 21, Nicholas Leon Latiker, 519 N. 13th St. Apt. #1, was arrested for driving while barred, violation of financial liability coverage and improper brake light.

On June 21, Valeria Lynn Saxton, of Ames, was arrested on a Marshalltown Police Department warrant charging her with harassment-first degree.

On June 20, Julio Cesar Garcia, 401 S. Third St., was arrested for public consumption.

Accidents

On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Dana Howard Gowin, of Altoona, was southbound on Highway 14 when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Gowin vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

On June 21, a car driven by Gerald Dean Jones, 2101 Summit St., was traveling northeast on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that entered the traveled portion of the roadway. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Jones car was estimated at $5,000.

On June 21, a car driven by Ariel Rose Worley, of Des Moines, was westbound on 340th Street when, as it approached a large hill, a red truck crested the hill traveling east down the middle of the roadway which caused the Worley car to pull to the right where it caught loose gravel on the shoulder and was pulled into the ditch, rolled and came to rest on its top. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Worley car was estimated at $2,500.
