PREP SOFTBALL: Mustangs march through Grundy Center, 16-0 in 4

GRUNDY CENTER - East Marshall scored five times before Grundy Center came to bat in the bottom of the first inning, and Mariah Fritz made it stand up with a four-inning no-hitter in the Class 3A No. 4-ranked Mustangs' 16-0 rout of the Spartans in NICL West Division softball action Friday.

Fritz (10-2) struck out 10, walked only one and got her first no-no of the summer. The Mustangs (23-2, 11-2) backed her with 13 hits and added an 11-run eruption in the fourth inning to put the score over the run-rule mark.

Taylor Fricke continued her recent tear at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and four RBIs. She had a pair of two-run doubles during East Marshall's 11-run fourth, and is hitting .474 (18-for-38) with six doubles, three home runs and 14 RBIs over the last 11 games.

Ashley Allen finished 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Paige Miller, Haley Long and Kylee Hoskey had two hits apiece. Miller scored three times and drove in a run, while Katie Roseland was 1-for-1 with three walks and two RBIs. Her courtesy runner Bobbi Amendt scored three runs.

Riley Ackerman took the loss in the circle for Grundy Center (4-14, 4-10). The Spartans' four-game homestand to close out the regular season resumes Monday against Wapsie Valley.

East Marshall closes out NICL West play on Monday with a make-up game at West Marshall.

LATE THURSDAY

East Marshall 8, CMB 4

LE GRAND - Taylor Fricke belted her fourth home run of the season and East Marshall overcame a persistent CMB attack with an 8-4 victory on Thursday night.

CMB led 3-2 entering the bottom of the third, when East Marshall scored twice to go in front for good. The Mustangs added four runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 advantage.

Fricke finished 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs, while Sophia Grego went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Mustang bats. Haley Long (13-1) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks, striking out 11.
