ALLEMAN Facing off in a potential district final preview, Class 2A No. 2 ranked North Polk held the upper hand in a 9-4 victory over West Marshall.

The Comets (22-4) opened up a 9-0 lead with two runs in both the first and fourth frames before adding a five-spot in the sixth. The Trojans (17-7) did all their damage in the seventh as starter Cole Jackson returned to record the final three outs. The North Polk pitcher earned the win after tossing a six-inning shutout before coming back in relief to finish the job.

Garrett Nichols surrendered four runs (two earned) on three hits in five innings, while striking out three and walking two in the loss. Matt Van Metre tossed one inning allowing four runs on four hits and a walk, while the NICL West Division Champs committed four errors.

Jared Riemenschneider led the West Marshall with a double, two walks and a run, while Cody Berns and Van Metre each finished 1-for-3. Berns tacked on an RBI double and scored, while Van Metre plated two runs on a double.

North Butler 4, North Tama 2

WATERLOO An early three-run hole proved too much for North Tama in a neutral site loss to North Butler Tuesday.

The Bearcats (14-3) piled up three runs in their first at-bat before tacking on an insurance run in the top of the seventh to snap North Tama's five game win streak. The Redhawks (22-7) rang up two runs in their final at-bat but couldn't keep the rally alive.

Jacob Wrage threw a complete game allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits, while striking out seven and walking two. The senior helped his cause with a hit and RBI, while Brandon Kaufman (1-for-2) and Clayton Blocker (1-for-3) also connected at the dish.

The Bearcats racked up six hits to counter three errors for their ninth straight win.

North Tama hosts Waterloo East in a doubleheader Friday starting at 5 p.m.

Union Community 6, BCLUW 1

LAPORTE CITY - Mitch Miller had BCLUW's only hit of the game in their 6-1 loss to cross-divisional NICL rival Union Community of LaPorte City (11-11).

BCLUW (7-14, 5-8) finishes its NICL West schedule tonight on the road against AGWSR. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Janesville 12, GMG 0, five innings

GREEN MOUNTAIN - The Wolverines (2-12) collected just three hits at the plate and Janesville scored at least two runs in four of the five innings.

Josh Raymond took the loss for GMG, allowing five earned runs and eight walks while fanning five in 4 2/3 innings.
