The city of Reinbeck terminated the contract of its city administrator, Quentin Mayberry, during a meeting last week.

Mayberry, 63, of Reinbeck, has served as city administrator since 2001.

"Anytime this happens, it hits you hard," Mayberry said. "It caught me off guard."

Mayberry believes his firing was a combination of things. He has been told in the past he needed to be better organized and wasn't getting information processed fast enough. He also was told by the city council his duties were not meeting the code of the job description of city administrator. He cited turnover among city council leadership as a challenge to his job.

"You may run it one way and they come in with a different idea and they clash," Mayberry said. "In this line of business, mayors and councils change."

Mayberry said he was nearing retirement and is unsure of the his next direction professionally.

Mayberry previously worked as city administrator of Laurens from 1998 to 2001 and spent a majority of his professional career working in sales and as a plumber. Reinbeck Mayor Shawn Murphy was not available for comment Monday.
