STATE CENTER - West Marshall senior Jared Riemenschneider hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot that completed the Trojans' comeback for a 4-2 victory over Aplington-Parkersburg in Monday's battle between NICL divisional champions.
The West Division champion Trojans (18-8) trailed 2-0 after the East Division-winning Falcons (13-8) scored two unearned runs off Riemenschneider in the second inning.
But West Marshall rallied back with two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to start off a four-game week heading into the postseason.
Riemenscheider finished 2-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs all told. On the mound he allowed three hits and four walks while striking out seven, improving to 5-0.
Matt Van Metre doubled and scored for the Trojans, who host Dike-New Hartford tonight and BGM on Wednesday.
BCLUW 11, Wapsie Valley 1, 6 innings
BEAMAN - BCLUW junior Cole Silver had his first career four-hit game and the Comets clobbered Wapsie Valley in Monday's non-conference baseball game, 11-1 in six innings.
After Wapsie Valley scored its lone run in the top of the first, BCLUW responded with five of its own. The Comets tacked on four more in the second and then ended the game with two tallies in the home half of the sixth.
Silver finished 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs to lead the Comets (9-15) in their 14-hit attack. Lane Caster, Max Callaway and winning pitcher Tyler Lutes each finished with a single and a double. Clark Jackley had two hits as well, including the game-ending RBI single in the sixth.
Isaac Novak, Caster and Callaway had consecutive doubles during BCLUW's five-run first in support of Lutes (5-2), who struck out five in his four-hitter.
Jacob Sherman (1-5) went the distance in the loss for Wapsie Valley (6-14).
BCLUW closes out the regular season tonight at GMG, with junior varsity beginning at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity contest.
GMG 27, Meskwaki 0, 4 innings
GREEN MOUNTAIN - Austin Vaughn struck out eight in a no-hitter and was one of three GMG players with two hits in GMG's 27-0, four-inning win over Iowa Star Conference foe Meskwaki on Monday.
Vaughn walked three batters and hit another, but did not surrender a hit. The GMG bats backed him with 12 runs in the first inning, nine in the second and six in the third for the lopsided win.
Vaughn finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored, while Noah Thurston was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs and four RBIs.
Eighth-grader Darrin Anderson was 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Tyler Thurston was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and three RBIs.
GMG (5-16, 5-8) also gained a win by forfeit from the Warriors. Next up for the Wolverines is tonight's home game against BCLUW.
