Local woman charged with $472 fraud

A Marshalltown woman faces charges of credit card fraud after she allegedly used a friend's credit card to pay off personal debt.

Capt. Chris Jones, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said Victoria Martin, 27, stole her friend's credit card June 28 and racked up $472 in charges through July 3.

Police arrested Martin Tuesday, charging her with credit card fraud, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Mario Alberto Gonzalez, 105 S. Seventh Ave., made an initial appearance on a aggravated domestic assault charge, going armed with intent charge, violation of a no-contact order charge and a willful injury charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle the aggravated domestic assault charge, the going armed with intent charge and the willful injury charge. Laura Sopher was appointed as counsel for the violation of a no-contact order charge. A preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 19 for the aggravated domestic assault charge, the going armed with intent charge and the willful injury charge. The contempt hearing is set for 3:45 p.m. July 22. Bond is set at $10,000 cash for the going armed with intent, aggravated domestic assault and willful injury charges and at $1,000 cash for the no-contact violation. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Jesus Covarruvias-Escamill, of Houston, Texas, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-first offense charge, a theft-second degree charge and a criminal mischief-first degree charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 17. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Wednesday

Scott Hayward, 412 N. Eighth Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Aug. 8 until the debt is paid.

Karen Michelle Sanford, of Gladbrook, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $116.50 in court costs for a total of $454. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Aug. 8 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge she may do 46 hours of community service plus pay court costs to be completed by Jan. 15, 2014.

Dillon Schultz, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a pre-trial violation charge. Laura Sopher will continue as counsel. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 12. Bond is set at $10,000 cash only.

Accidents

On June 28, a pickup driven by Jose Victor Castellanos, 1315 Larkfield Court, was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer that darted in front of the pickup causing front end damage. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Castellanos pickup was estimated at $3,000.

Incidents

On Friday, Amy Lynn Rodriguez, 2325A Marshalltown Blvd., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $620 from her residence.

On July 4, Ranae Lea Osgood, of Newton, reported damage to the windshield, tires, hoses and wires under the hood on a 1998 Ford F150 pickup while parked at 2608A Reed Ave. Estimated value of damage was $500.

On Sunday, Cena Rae Durnin, of Tama, was arrested for open container.

On Sunday, Glenda Roberts, of Tama, was arrested for open container.

On Sunday, Dasha Rochelle Reed, of Tama, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and open container.

On Sunday, Bradley Isaac Shuckahosee, of Tama, was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, felony eluding, driving under suspension, no insurance, no driver's license, speeding 81 mph in a 65 mph zone, open container, operating while intoxicated-first offense, speeding 95 mph in a 55 mph zone and interference with official acts.

On June 30, Jacki Lee Davis, of Gilman, was arrested for operating while intoxicated-third offense, driving under suspension, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, failure to dim lights and operating without interlock device.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call at 207 E. Main St. and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 615 E. Anson St., 206 Nicholas Drive, 1308 E. Madison St., 517 N. Second St. and 2401 S. Second St.

July 4

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1706 Elder Drive, 1013 S. 10th Ave., 211 W. Church St. and 1701 S. Fourth St., and six fire calls to: 220 E. Main St., 3202 S. 12th St., 201 N. Second Ave., 427 Swayze St., 2010 S. Third Ave. and 1010 W. Lincolnway.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a rescue call at 312 E. Main St., a medical assist with the EMS crew to 111 W. Main St. and three fire calls to: 211 W. Church St., 506 N. Center St., and 2305 S. 12th St.
