No. 8 AGWSR advances past Nashua-Plainfield

ACKLEY - Ashley Sicard fanned 10 batters in a two-hit outing as the Class 2A No. 8-ranked Cougars jumped all over Nashua-Plainfield, 9-1, in a Region 3 quarterfinal Wednesday.

AGWSR (25-7) scored two runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth, before adding an insurance run in the sixth. The Cougars host Aplington-Parkersburg Friday at 7 p.m. in a regional semifinal. The Falcons (16-8) blanked West Fork 6-0 in Parkersburg Wednesday.

Marissa Horner paced the Cougars with two hits, three RBIs, a triple and a run, while Sicard and Madison Fryslie each drove in a run. The Huskies (12-13) scored their lone run in the fourth.

Alburnett 8, Gladbrook-Reinbeck 0

ALBURNETT - Getting more than enough offense with a run in the first, Alburnett tacked on two more in the second, four in the fourth and one in the sixth to cruise past Gladbrook-Reinbeck 8-0 in a Class 2A Region 6 quarterfinal Wednesday.

Cassidy Henle twirled a complete game, four-hit shutout for the Pirates (22-16), who advance to play Madrid Friday in a regional semifinal in Conrad.

Enduring a 21-game losing streak, the Rebels won two of their last four games to finish 3-24. No stats were available for Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
