Monday

Christopher Edward McDonald, 308 N. Sixth Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while revoked charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 9. McDonald was released on his own recognizance.

Pudoli Mendoza Gonzalez, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated-second offense charge and a one-way violation charge. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 9. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. Mendoza Gonzalez was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days of today's date.

Marcelo Gonzalez, 1312 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred-habitual offender charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 1. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Ryan McRill, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a domestic assault charge. A pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 27 in Magistrate Court. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Nathaniel Romone French, 808 N. Fourth Ave., made an initial appearance on a theft-fifth degree charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $147.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75.

Chester Jon Brown, 515 N. 15th Ave., made an initial appearance on three counts of an assault on a peace officer charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 29. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Keenan Lee Bear, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75.

Incidents

On Saturday, Robert Raymond Gale, 720 Union St., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $950 from his residence.

On Friday Eric Hernandez, 303 Sharon Ave., reported the theft of a bicycle from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $200.

On Thursday, an employee with Tropical Sno, 1702 S. Center St., reported the theft of a money bag containing $220 in cash.

On Thursday, Ashley Thomas, 111 N. Second St. Apt. #2, reported the theft of quarters and 20s in the amount of $560 from her residence.

On July 16, an employee with Center Associates, 9 S. Fourth Ave., reported damage to a window at the business. Estimated value of damage was $500.

On July 16, Jon David Felland, 308 E. Boone St. Apt. #4, reported the theft of a Sony PlayStation 3 games system and several PS3 games, an Acer laptop computer and six guitars from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $6,700.

On July 16, an employee at The General Store, 116 E. Church St., reported the theft of an iPhone 4. Estimated value of loss was $101.

On Saturday, Daniel Michael Rutte, 1702 Edgebrook Drive Apt. #4, was cited for operating while intoxicated.

On July 15, Robin Leigh Harris (Zitzow), 810 W. Lincoln Way Apt. #3, was arrested for theft-fifth degree from Walmart.

Accidents

On Sunday, a car driven by Kirk Robert Williams, of Des Moines, was eastbound on West Main Street attempting to turn north onto 13th Street when it collided with a pickup driven by Chad Ronald Goecke, 1308 S. Third Ave., No injuries were reported. Damage to the Williams car was estimated at $1,600 while the Goecke pickup received an estimated $200 in damage.

On Friday, a car driven by Guadalupe Galaviz Arias, 410 Fremont St., was eastbound on Fremont Street and stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with North Fourth Street before proceeding into the intersection and colliding with a car driven by Kimberly Lynn Hawkins, 312 Jerome St., which was south on North Fourth Street. No injuries were reported. Galaviz Arias was cited for failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way. Damage to the Galaviz Arias car was estimated at $1,500 while the Hawkins car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

On July 16, a minivan driven by Brandi Lynn Eberle, 303 Wauconda Road, was southbound in the 1800 block of Campbell Drive when it struck a deer that entered the roadway throwing it onto the roof of the hood. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Eberle minivan was estimated at $3,500.
