Woman takes cab, snags driver's money

A woman who took a cab also allegedly took the money and ran.

According to a Marshalltown Police report a cab driver picked up a couple from a local motel Tuesday. The driver, from Cabs of Marshalltown, noticed the woman was reaching around under the driver's seat where he kept his money.

The driver pulled over and confronted her about it, near 500 W. Meadow Lane, and she allegedly took off running.

Approximately, $118 cash was stolen.

Police have been unable to identify who the woman was.

Thursday

Daniel Shane Warnell, of Eldora, made an initial appearance on a probation revocation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Court as its docket permits. No bond was allowed in this case.

Guadalupe Pesina, 405 Plaza Heights Road Apt. A, made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt probation hearing. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The contempt probation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court as its docket permits. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. If bond is made Pesina is then released with supervision through the Department of Correctional Services and is to report to them following release.

Adam Wade Beem, 811 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a theft-second degree charge and a conspiracy charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Aug. 28. Bond will continue as posted and the court ordered that Beem be released with supervision through the DCS and is to report to the adult probation office to sign a pre-trial release document.

Danny Triplett, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The probation revocation hearing will be scheduled by the District Associate Court as its docket permits. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. If Triplett obtains release then the court ordered him to be released with supervision through the DCS.

Dallas Lane Sorlaesith, 1310 Greenfield Drive, made an initial appearance on a harassment-third degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party for the period of one year.

Lemuel Lee Good, of Gladbrook, made an initial appearance through a sign language interpreter on a simple assault charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 17 in Magistrate Court. Good was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Raelene Needham, 1305 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. She pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 17 in Magistrate Court. Needham was released on her own recognizance.

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire call at 1301 Summit St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1104 W. Church St., 300 E. Boone St. and 206 Nicholas Drive.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a spill at 105 Washington St., a fire call to 547 N. Third St., a call to Highway 30 West and two medical assists with the EMS crew to 506 N. Third Ave. and 301 N. 12th Ave.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a medical assist with the EMS crew to 3202 S. 12th St. and a call to 7 N. 17th St.

Incidents

On Tuesday, an employee with the Augustine Company, 1210 Industrial Blvd., reported damage to an air conditioning unit at the business and the theft of copper from inside. Estimated value of loss was $500.

On Tuesday, an employee with Cabs of Marshalltown, 3008 S. Center St., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $118.

On Sunday, an employee at the Rusty Nail, 209 E. Main St., reported damage to a wooden frame, a window and two cash registers at the business and the theft of cash. Estimated value of loss was $1,299.

Citations

On Wednesday, Aaron Darrell Bea, 415 N. Third St. Apt. #7, was cited for carrying weapons, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Arrests

On Monday, Mitchell Van Halsey, 211 W. Church St., was arrested for public intoxication and interference with official acts.

On Monday, Mark Lee Varnum, 211 W. Church St., was arrested for public intoxication.

Accidents

On Wednesday, a vehicle driven by Theresa Ann Lyon, of Toledo, was exiting a parking spot at Wal-Mart when it backed into a car driven by Scott Alan Case, 2238 Three Bridges Road, which was driving through the lot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Lyon vehicle was estimated at $1,000 while the Case car received an estimated $3,000 in damage.

On Wednesday, a pickup driven by Craig J. Levron, of Houma, La., was backing in the Clemons parking lot during a time of construction when it struck a legally parked car in the lot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Levron pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the legally parked car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

Arrests

On Aug. 2, Tanner Henning, age 19, of Dike, was arrested by Butler County authorities on a Grundy County warrant charging him with theft-fifth degree. He pleaded guilty and was released.

Accidents

On July 25, a car driven by a 15-year-old male juvenile from Ackley was northbound on B Avenue north of 150th Street it went out of control and entered the east ditch where it rolled onto its top. No injuries were reported. Sanders was cited for violation of an instruction permit. Damage to the Ackley car was estimated at $1,500.
