Drake football hosting Youth Day
DES MOINES - The Drake University football team will host its seventh annual Youth Day Saturday inside Drake Stadium from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
The free event is open to the public and geared toward children in elementary school.
"Our guys will be in uniform to sign autographs, but more than that, we're going to put guys through some fun drills," Drake head coach Chris Creighton said. "It's not so much about teaching football, but being with our guys and having a lot of fun."
Youth Day, an event introduced by Creighton in his first season at Drake, gives area children an opportunity to visit the Bulldogs' players while enjoying football-related fun and games. Kids will have the opportunity to come down onto the field and participate in a safe, fun environment, while receiving football instruction.
Following Youth Day, the Bulldogs will suit up for their first scrimmage of the season at 6 p.m. The day's activities also go beyond the football field with Drake cheerleaders on hand for pictures and to help lead and teach cheers.
The Bulldogs host their 2013 season opener against Grand View on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.
