Les Havran, 89, of Toledo, died Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Carrington Place of Toledo while in the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services for Les will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation for Les will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at a later date at the Garwin Cemetery. Les was born March 20, 1924, in Tama County, Iowa, near Elberon. He was the son of Frank and Agnes (Kosnar) Havran. He attended the Geneso schools. Les honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. Les was united in marriage to Lillian Votrobeck-Wrede on October 16, 1987, in Redwing, Minnesota. Les and Lillian later renewed their vows at St. Bonifice Church. Les and his brother Virgil owned and operated a trucking business together for several years. Les enjoyed fishing and playing any types of card games, especially: pepper, cribbage and solitare. He and Lillian spent nineteen winters in Texas at Lake Corpus Christi. Les was a member of the Garwin American Legion William Saunders Post #71.
Les is survived by his wife Lillian, his children: Richard (Laura) Havran, of Peoria, Illinois, Randall (Roleen) Havran, of Jasper, Georgia, his step-children: Carolyn (Jack) Walker of Toledo and Bill Wrede of Marshalltown, his five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven step-greatgrandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn Verba, his brother Virgil Havran, and his infant son Mark.
