IOWA CITY - Hawkeye fans can get a chance to see the Iowa volleyball team for the first time at the annual Black and Gold Scrimmage, scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Admission for the scrimmage is free to the public and volleyball schedule cards, magnets, key tags and posters will be available after the match.
For those not in attendance, live coverage of the match will be available on the team's new Twitter feed, @IowaVB_Live.
The Hawkeyes return 15 letterwinners, including kills leader Alex Lovell (382), digs leader Bethany Yeager (533) and assists leader Nikki Dailey (1,103). Senior Rachael Bedell, who was second in kills last year, and junior Alessandra Dietz, Iowa's leader in blocks last year, also are expected to have an impact this season.
Iowa opens the season at the Chanticleer Invitational in Conway, S.C. The Hawkeyes will play Wofford on Aug. 30 and conclude the weekend against Youngstown State and host Coastal Carolina on Aug. 31.
UNI volleyball sets golf outing for Oct. 6
CEDAR FALLS - The annual University of Northern Iowa volleyball golf outing has been set and it will take place Oct. 6 at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Dike.
The four-person best shot will kick off at 12:30 p.m. and feature a shotgun start. The $45 fee will cover green fees, flight prizes and flag events.
For an additional $12, golfers can add a cart and for $8 more a meal can be added. Proceeds for the event will directly benefit the Northern Iowa volleyball program.
