Resides: My husband and I moved to Marshalltown in 1978, straight out of college. We've lived in our current home for 20 years, where our back yard views the beautiful setting of the Iowa Veterans Home.
Hometown: I grew up on the family farm near Wayne, Neb. with two brothers and two sisters.
Family: I married my high school sweetheart and best friend, Kerry Jech, who is the senior pastor at New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Our son, Adam, and his wife, Brook (Eastman) live on our family farm. They have three beautiful daughters: Tia, Felicity, and Ellie. Our son, Jeremy, and his wife, Leah, live in Cozad, Neb. Our daughter, Amanda, lives in Marshalltown and is married to Brian (Freiberg) and they have two awesome children, Gavin and Annika. Our youngest son, Jordan, lives in Cincinnati. My dad lives in Wayne. Mom passed away last November.
Hobbies: My favorite hobby has always been reading but I recently took up something totally new - jogging, when my daughter-in-law introduced me to an app for my phone called C25K. I hope to check a 5K off my bucket list soon!
Occupation: I'm working as a substitute teacher again in several Marshalltown K-8 classrooms. One of the best parts about substituting is learning new things every day and the worst part is that I often don't get to hear the end of many of the great stories we read in class.
Books: My favorite book is the Bible, which I read through every year. I try to stay current on the news and also enjoy reading historical fiction by authors like Francine Rivers.
Foods: I love to cook, but doing dishes - not so much! We enjoy grilling and eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Best part of living here: Kerry and I have gained many wonderful friends in Marshalltown through our church, our kids, and involvement in the community. I currently serve on the missions ministry at New Hope, on the House of Compassion's board of directors, and will be president of Noon Optimists next year. I'm helping raise funds for Marshalltown Christian School's new building and am working with many in the faith community, in collaboration with CAPS, to address teen pregnancy and more in Marshall County. I'm looking forward to participating in the Marshalltown Fire Department's Citizen Academy in September.
Advice on life: 1) Do everything with integrity. 2) "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32). 3) "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight" (Proverbs 3:5,6).
