It's hard to get more patriotic than a veteran. So naturally the place to go for some of the best patriotic music is veterans themselves.

The Iowa Military Veterans Band will play at 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at the MHS/Community Auditorium in Marshalltown. The show is sponsored by the Times-Republican.

Tickets to the event are free and can now be picked up (four per person) at the Times-Republican office, during business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

More than 50 band members have signed up to play the Marshalltown event this year.

"We have people all the way back to World War II," said Jim Jezek, president of the volunteer group and a trombone player. "We do a variety of music but usually it's patriotic pieces."

The show is expected to run approximately one hour and is led by conductor Jim Goodwin. It is typically well-received by audiences throughout the state.
