Pictured is Mark Bennett of Strand’s in Marshalltown putting the finishing touches on a strip of carpet at the entrance to the Harry C. Harter Post 839, Veterans of Foreign Wars building, 107 E. Meadow Lane. Contractors and VFW volunteers are in the final stages of completing an extensive remodeling project begun earlier this year of approximately $108,000. It included the installation of two handicap accessible rest rooms, a full kitchen, furnace, sprinkler system, electrical wiring and more. VFW funds and donations from Marshalltown area businesses and individuals paid for remodeling expenses. The building will also house the VFW Post 839 Ladies Auxiliary. The VFW purchased the building in November 2012 from Stucky’s Vacuum Service for $180,000. That business relocated downtown.
