AMES - Iowa State libero player Kristen Hahn was named the Big 12 Conference's volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the 13th time in her career, tying her for second all-time in league history.

Hahn totaled 59 digs as the No. 11-ranked Cyclones got their season off to a 3-0 start with wins over South Dakota State, North Dakota and Texas A&M at the UND Classic in Grand Forks, N.D.

Hahn's 13 player of the week awards ties her with former Texas standout and U.S. Olympian Destinee Hooker and puts her two away from the all-time record held by another former Cyclone libero, Ashley Mass.

Iowa State improved to 4-0 on the year Wednesday following a five-set win over Northern Iowa. The Cyclones next play Friday in the ISU?Challenge.

Iowa's Yeager earns first weekly honor

IOWA CITY - University of Iowa senior Bethany Yeager received the Big Ten Conference's first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season, and the first of her career, after helping the Hawkeyes to a 3-0 start.

Yeager totaled 79 digs in wins over Wofford, Youngstown State and host Coastal Carolina at the Chanticleer Invitational over the weekend in Conway, S.C.

Yeager is the first Hawkeye volleyball player to receive the award since Christina Meister was honored in 2009.

Iowa is back on the court Friday and Saturday in the Valparaiso Popcorn Classic. The Hawkeyes will face Rhode Island, Eastern Michigan and host Valparaiso.

LINCOLN, Neb. - State Center native Joe Tharpe earned his second Sports Car Club of America national championship Wednesday at the 41st Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships at the Lincoln, Neb., airport.

Tharpe's Chevy Corvette topped nine other competitors in the Super Street Prepared class to win the two-day competition that pits drivers from across the country in a single-event, winner-take-all format.

The Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships are the largest motorsports competition in the world as more than 1,000 drivers compete for titles in 66 separate classes. The drivers also are considered amateurs and do not compete for money.
