The biggest fight in Marshalltown native Rick Glenn's mixed martial arts career is but eight days away.
Glenn, a 145-pounder, is facing Artur Rofi of New Jersey in a World Series of Fighting bout from Atlantic City, N.J., Sept. 14 and televised by NBC.
And the fight will have major consequences.
"The winner of the Glenn-Rofi fight will fight for the WSOF championship after the first of they year," said Shaun White of Marshalltown, Glenn's manager.
NBC will start televising the event at 6 p.m., CST, but Glenn is expected to fight between 8 and 9 p.m.," said White.
Glenn is 13-2-1 (win-loss-draw) as a professional and has won 11 consecutive fights.
Rofi is 6-0-0, is from New Jersey and will be the house favorite.
Glenn, who trains in Milwaukee, has worked his way up the rankings by winning.
Earlier this year, he was ranked the number 42 fighter at 145 and the number 12 fighter to watch by WSOF officials.
And as per custom, long-time Glenn sponsor, Rumours Bar and Grill in Marshalltown will host a fight party.
Steve Priske, owner of Rumours, said he became a Glenn sponsor early in the fighter's career.
"Rick is genuine," he said. "He's stopped down several times and we've become acquainted. He's never forgotten Marshalltown is his home town. Before Rick's fight starts, the television screen will list Marshalltown as his home town. I like that."
Priske has also been involved to help Glenn's sister, Aubry, a Marshalltown teen who has been fighting a debilitating form of cancer.
Everyone who attends the fight party will get a ticket which will make them eligible for major prizes at a Sept. 28 event at Rumours featuring Glenn.
Ticket holders will have a chance to win equipment used by Glenn and more.
Additionally, Glenn will be signing autographs as a fundraiser for Aubry.
