DIKE - Dike-New Hartford ran its winning streak over Gladbrook-Reinbeck to five games, as the Class 1A No. 5-ranked Wolverines improved to 2-0 with a 49-27 triumph over the Rebels in non-district football Friday.
Dike-New Hartford scored 28 straight points between the first and third quarters to turn a 7-6 lead into a 35-6 advantage. Gladbrook-Reinbeck (1-2) scored 21 points in the second half but it was not enough to rally up a comeback.
Levi Lynch rushed 13 times for 117 yards and four touchdowns to lead Dike-New Hartford, which outgained G-R 345-260 in total offense. Quarterback Carson Parker was 10-for-17 for 115 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came during the Wolverines' 28-point surge.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior tailback Chase Clark carried 25 times for 214 yards and all four Rebel scores, covering distances of 67, 6, 52 and 3 yards.
Quarterback Camden Kickbush finished 8-for-14 for 74 yards, with Colton Dinsdale catching three passes for 28 yards. Wyatt Swanson caught two balls for 20 yards.
Josh Cooley picked off a Parker pass to lead the G-R defense.
The Rebels open Class A District 4 play at home next Friday night, welcoming Iowa Valley to 'The Pit' for a 7 p.m. contest.
AGWSR 48, GMG 7
GARWIN - AGWSR is out to a 3-0 start for the second year in a row after beating GMG 48-7 in a non-district Class A clash Friday night.
The Cougars, ranked sixth in the first Associated Press poll of the fall, jumped out to a 35-7 lead at the half and cruised to the win.
No statistics were available as of press time.
GMG's lone score came on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Bridger Claassen to Bryce Newcomb in the second quarter. Austin Vaughn added the point-after kick, but the Wolverines (2-1) suffered their first defeat.
Ryan Spurlin rushed for 25 yards to lead GMG, while Brock Fisher added 10 yards. Claassen finished 6-for-12 for 80 yards with an interception, and Newcomb caught two passes for 46 yards. Vaughn had two grabs for 22 yards.
Trent Geiken had a team-high 15 tackles for the Wolverines, who open district play next Friday night at North Tama (0-3).
