CONRAD - The BCLUW volleyball team finished fifth out of six at its own Round-Robin Tournament on Saturday, going 1-4 overall.
The Comets (2-5) collected their lone match win with a 21-14, 21-19 sweep of Aplington-Parkersburg. BCLUW fell to Hudson, North Polk and South Tama in straight-set sweeps, while Benton Community edged the Comets in three games.
Hudson went 5-0 for the tournament title, improving to 10-1 on the year. North Polk was 4-1 for second place, South Tama went 3-2 for third, while tiebreakers separated 1-4 finishers Benton (fifth), BCLUW (sixth) and Aplington-Parkersburg (seventh).
BCLUW was led by Kendall Scurr's 20 kills and Haley Veldhouse had 19 kills and four blocks. Nicole Mongomery had team-highs of 20 digs and seven blocks while contributing 12 kills and 22-for-24 serving with four aces.
Olivia Callaway totaled 12 kills, 12 digs, four blocks, and a team-best 34-for-34 serving with three aces. Mallory Vawter chipped in 10 kills, 13 digs and four aces, while Scurr contributed 13 digs.
Nicolette Simpson totaled 31 assists, 12 digs and 21-for-21 serving with two aces, while Bobbi Paper had 25 assists and served 21-for-22 with an ace.

Redhawks win own event
TRAER - North Tama swept its way through pool play and defeated BGM for the second time Saturday to win its own tournament.
The Redhawks (9-3) swept Montezuma (22-20, 21-7) and Clarksville (21-10, 21-9) during pool play, while also rallying past BGM (15-21, 21-11, 15-11).
North Tama topped Belle Plaine (25-18, 25-13) in the semifinals, and then turned back BGM in the title match, 25-22, 19-25, 16-14.
Molly Dvorak led the Redhawks with 12 kills in the title match, while Josie Youel had 11, Sarah Howard five and Whitney Pokorny three. Youel served 15-for-15 with an ace, while Anna Kvidera finished 10-for-10 with an ace and totaled 24 assists. Shayla Kopriva led the defense with 15 digs.

North Tama begins Iowa Star Conference play on Thursday night at Northeast Hamilton, while Meskwaki opens at Class 1A No. 2-ranked Janesville.
