Bradley paces Trojans; Tigers solid in Johnston

JEFFERSON - Nathan Bradley won for the second time in as many meets, leading the West Marshall cross country teams at the Greene County Invitational on Thursday at Jefferson-Scranton High School.

Bradley, who qualified for state as a sophomore, won Thursday's race in a time of 17 minutes, 14 seconds. He was joined in medalist status by teammate Austin Grimm, who placed ninth in 18:36.

Cody Berns came in 32nd for the Trojans in 20:03, followed by Joel Phelps in 51st (21:13) and Sam Edler in 52nd (21:18).

West Marshall's boys were seventh out of 10 scoring teams with 127 points. The Trojans' girls were sixth out of eight squads, scoring 159 points.

Allison Hilleman led the way for West Marshall, placing 19th in 18:03. Maggie Sodders (19:26) and Madie Streeter (19:34) finished 34-35, while Ashley Pfantz in 55th (20:042) and Emma Kielman in 57th (20:49) rounded out the Trojan girls' squad.

West Marshall is back in action on Monday at South Tama's invitational at Otter Creek Lake in Toledo.

South Hardin strong at Johnston Invitational

JOHNSTON - Only a pair of ranked foes could keep the Tigers from the trophy Thursday.

Led by a pair of top-10 finishers, the South Hardin girls cross country team placed third with 102 points at the Johnston Invitational at Walnut Ridge Recreation Facility.

Class 2A No. 4 ranked Gilbert dominated the field with 22 points, while 13th-rated North Polk finished runner-up with 78. Bondurant-Farrar was eight points behind the Tigers to take fourth in the eight-team field.

Claire Damon sparked South Hardin, swiping fifth in 16 minutes, 42 seconds and Megan Carr grabbed ninth in 17:49. Miquela Teske added an 18th-place tally in 18:25, while Kylee Zoske (28th, 19:33) and Laura Campbell (73rd, 22:59) completed the team score.

Tim Rose paced the South Hardin boys to sixth (141), racing to fourth in 16:37. Class 2A No. 10 North Polk (53) edged out second-rated Gilbert by two points for the team title. Saydel (81), Pella Christian (134) and Bondurant-Farrar (137) rounded out the top five in a 10-team field comprised of 118 runners.

Zac Farrell garnered 13th in 18:09 and Micah Dorow's 19:28 was good for 33rd. Logan Roling (51st, 20:46) and Dylan Wenke (76th, 22:11) also figured into the team score.

The Tigers will compete at the Ballard Invite Monday at 4:30 p.m.
