Celebrating the victories of central Iowans over substance abuse and mental illness is the theme of the sixth annual Recovery bicycle and walk event Sept. 22.

The public is invited and there is a $5 admission fee.

Center Associates, Life Connections, the Iowa Veterans Home and the Substance Abuse and Treatment Unit of Central Iowa, all of Marshalltown, have teamed-up to sponsor the event.

The Grimes Farm and Conservation Center entrance is shown. The facility, located on the west side of Marshalltown off of Highland Acres Road, will host the Recovery Bicycle & Walk event Sept. 22.

The four entities work aggressively in dealing with the myriad of substance abuse and mental health issues that impact a large number of central Iowa residents.

Bev Worden represents Center Associates; Angie Lins-Eich, Life Connections; Judy Dostal, IVH and Shannon Chyma, SATUCI.

The planning committee has made a number of changes to keep the event fresh, according to Sarah Pittman, prevention specialist with SATUCI.
