ACKLEY - Class A No. 4-ranked AGWSR held West Hancock to 158 yards, leaving the visiting Hawks scoreless in their District 2 football opener for a 35-0 win on Friday night.
It marks the first 4-0 start for the Cougars since 2001.
Quarterback Cody Williams rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns as all of AGWSR's 292 yards of offense came on the ground. Clay Meinders ran for 61 yards, Clay Bohner had 55 yards and a TD, Levi Stockdale got 53 yards, and Darrick Kyle-Murphy added 26 yards and a score.
Neither team completed a pass in the game, going a combined 0-for-11. Bohner led the Cougar defense with eight tackles and a fumble recovery.
Mark Roth ran for 75 yards to lead West Hancock (0-3, 0-1), which has been outscored 137-0 to start the season.
AGWSR hits the road to face 10th-ranked Bishop Garrigan of Algona (2-1, 1-0) on Friday night.
Grundy Center 40, Belle Plaine 8
GRUNDY CENTER - The Spartans won for the second straight week, opening Class A District 4 play with a 40-8 win over Belle Plaine (1-3, 0-1). Nick Mauer had two first-quarter touchdowns to propel Grundy Center (2-2, 1-0) to victory, scoring on a 48-yard punt return and a 5-yard run.
Spartan quarterback Brock Rohler tossed two third-quarter touchdowns, one going 35 yards to Lane Bangasser and the other a 60-yard scoring connection with Jordan Stoner. Bryce Moats had a 38-yard TD run and Bryce Flater's only carry was a 65-yard touchdown scamper.
Jordan Clapp led Grundy Center with 105 rushing yards on just seven carries. Rohler finished 6-for-13 for 159 yards.
Grundy Center goes to Garwin Friday to face GMG (3-1, 1-0) in district action.
Dallas Center-Grimes 34, South Tama 0
GRIMES - South Tama was limited to 133 yards of offense as Dallas Center-Grimes won Friday's Class 3A District 4 opener, 34-0.
Chaz Chambers ran for 90 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Andrew Kramer threw for 148 yards and ran for 45 more. Kramer totaled three touchdowns for the Mustangs (2-1, 1-0).
Both teams had five turnovers in the game. South Tama (1-2, 0-1) was shut out for the first time since consecutive losses to Grinnell and Williamsburg during a 1-8 campaign in 2006.
Jerry Lowe had 32 yards rushing to lead STC, while Dalton Doyle was 7-for-18 passing for 75 yards.
The Trojans host Newton (1-2, 0-1) on Friday night.
Colo-NESCO 60, Ankeny Christian 6
COLO - Royals quarterback Taylor Hill ran for 189 of his team's 361 ground gains, leading Colo-NESCO to its first victory, a 60-6 whitewashing of Ankeny Christian (0-3, 0-2).
Hill ran 21 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 38 and 50 yards. Garret Tiarks ran 77 yards for a touchdown on his only carry, and Grant Tiarks went in from 37 yards on his only attempt.
Colo-NESCO (1-3, 1-1) totaled 401 yards of offense in the win. The Royals host East Union in 8-Man District 6 play this Friday night.
HLV 63, Meskwaki 12
MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - Tanner Strudthoff took two kickoffs back for touchdowns as HLV defeated Meskwaki 63-12 in 8-Man District 5 play.
No statistics were reported for Meskwaki, which hosts Twin Cedars (4-0, 2-0) this Friday.
