ALGONA - Clay Meinders ran for a team-leading 67 yards and scored the game's only touchdown with 9 seconds left, lifting Class A No. 4 AGWSR to a 6-0 triumph over No. 9 Bishop Garrigan in Friday's District 2 showdown.

Both teams' defense-first ways rang true, as AGWSR delivered with its third shutout of the season. The Cougars (5-0, 2-0) are allowing just 4 points per game this season and are out to their best start in shared school history.

Levi Stockdale led the defense with 10 tackles, Meinders had eight, and Joey Neely recovered a fumble.

The Cougars host Southeast Webster-Grand (1-3, 0-2) next Friday night.

Grundy Center 47, GMG 10

Three Spartans went over 100 yards rushing, led by Bryce Flater's nine-carry, 162-yard performance. Bryce Moats ran 14 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns, and Jordan Clapp carried 24 times for 133 yards and two scores. Flater's 78-yard touchdown run came as a part of Grundy Center's 21-point second quarter.

Quarterback Brock Rohler finished 8-of-15 for 166 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Spartans (3-2, 2-0) overcome three lost fumbles. Jordan Stoner and Austin Burroughs both hauled in TD passes.

GMG's lone score came on a 15-yard return of a fumble by Luke Petty. Austin Vaughn added a 42-yard field goal for the Wolverines (3-2, 1-1). Brock Fisher ran for 51 yards to lead GMG, while Bridger Claassen was 4-for-11 for 63 yards with two interceptions. Trent Geiken led the defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery.

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT - Twin Cedars quarterback Brent Parker added to his state-leading passing yardage, going 13-for-24 for 284 yards and seven touchdowns in a 52-22 triumph for the Sabers (5-0, 3-0) over Meskwaki in 8-Man District 5 play.
