A woman was robbed of her purse at gunpoint Wednesday in the parking lot of the Marshall Town Center.
The armed robbery occurred just before noon, according to the Marshalltown Police Department.
The woman said she was heading into an east entrance of the mall when two men brandishing what she believed was a handgun approached her. The suspects took the victim's purse and fled east from the mall area. They were not located after a search by police and the K9 team Wednesday afternoon.
Nearby Hoglan Elementary School went into a shelter-in-place following the incident, as recommended by the police. It meant external doors were locked and nobody was allowed in or out for approximately one hour.
"School went on inside as normal," said Jason Staker, communications manager with the school district.
Ken Huge, general manager of Marshall Town Center, said the incident did not affect the business day at the mall.
"You never want anything like this to happen at a property like this that's open to the public," Huge said.
Anyone who has any information, or who may have seen something in the mall area, is asked to call the MPD at 641-754-5725.
