COLO - The Colo-NESCO volleyball team jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on rival North Tama on Thursday but was forced to play five games during Iowa Star Conference play.
The Royals still prevailed though, beating the Redhawks 25-12, 28-26, 16-25, 18-25, 15-6.
Caitlyn Riese led the Royals (7-9, 4-2) with 21 kills and nine digs, while Samantha Riese finished with 14 kills and Kylie Sarver added 14 digs. Madison Farren chipped in eight digs and McKenna Farren (24) and Brittnee Packer (21) combined for 45 assists.
North Tama (10-7, 3-4) was led by Josie Youel's 14 kills, nine digs and four blocks, while Molly Dvorak added 14 kills, four blocks and 8-for-8 serving.
Anna Kvidera had 33 assists and 13 digs, and Whitney Pokorny chipped in seven kills, 13 digs and was 19-for-20 in serves with five aces.
Don Bosco sweeps GMG
GILBERTVILLE - Erin McFadden's 10 kills and Abby Schaefer's 18 assists helped lead Don Bosco to a 25-16, 25-14, 25-14 win over GMG on Thursday in Iowa Star play.
It was the fourth straight victory for the Dons (10-8, 5-0).
Caitlin Appelgate had six kills, four digs and two aces to lead the Wolverines (4-7, 3-2). Mikaella Koster chipped in four assists, five digs and two aces, while Jennifer Borota added a team-high 12 digs. Mackenzie Burt also had seven assists, Olivia Welton added six digs and Abigail Duden finished with six digs and two kills.
GMG will travel to North Tama on Tuesday. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
AGWSR 0-2 in triangular
GREENE - The AGWSR volleyball team suffered its fourth straight loss when it dropped a pair against North Butler and Wapsie Valley Thursday.
In the opener, North Butler lost the opening set but ultimately scored the 22-25, 25-20, 15-10 win. Wapsie Valley's win was 25-12, 25-10. AGWSR is now 5-14 on the season.
In the loss to North Butler, Kim Ellingson had five kills, nine assists and seven digs, while Alexa Johnson and Ashley Sicard added eight and seven kills, respectively.
Olivia Ingledue had 23 digs, while Madison Fryslie was 10-for-10 in serving with three aces.
Fryslie's 11 digs and Ingledue's nine led the Cougars against Wapsie Valley. Sicard had two kills and five digs in the two-game loss.
Trojans run at PCM
MONROE - A pair of medalist performances propelled the West Marshall boys cross country team to a sixth-place finish out of 14 teams at the PCM Invite at Gateway Golf Course.
Nathan Bradley claimed runner-up in 18 minutes and Austin Grimm took 12th in 19:28 to help the Trojans post a score of 179. Cody Berns was 65th in 21:36, while Garrett Nichols (67th, 21:44) and Joel Phelps (80th, 22:12) rounded out the top five.
Allison Hilleman sparked the West Marshall girls squad to a 10th place finish out of 13 teams. Hilleman came through in 19:06 and Madie Streeter took 56th in 20:45. Emma Kielman (20:55) was five spots behind Streeter, while Maggie Sodders (63rd, 21:08) and Shelby Larsen (94th, 23:06) also factored into the team score.
