PREP FOOTBALL: Cougars move to 6-0; Comets clip Redhawks

ACKLEY - Clay Meinders ran for 108 yards and four touchdowns as the Class A No. 4-ranked AGWSR football team remained unbeaten, pummeling Southeast Webster-Grand 41-6 in Friday's District 2 clash.

Meinders needed only 14 carries to eclipse 100 yards for the second time this season, scoring on runs of 8, 3, 11 and 5 yards. Freshman Mason Eilderts saw most of the action in the backfield in the second half, going for 115 yards and 23 carries with a 3-yard touchdown.

The Cougars (6-0, 3-0) ran the ball on all 57 plays, racking up 375 yards. Darrick Kyle-Murphy added a 14-yard TD run to Meinders' four first-half scores as AGWSR led 35-0 at the break.

Southeast Webster-Grand (1-4, 0-3) suffered its third straight loss, netting only 124 yards of total offense. Tristan Ewing led the Eagles with 75 rushing yards.

BCLUW 14, North Tama 7

TRAER - Conner Ubben connected with Will Garber on a 17-yard, go-ahead touchdown with 55 seconds left, and Ty Runge's two-point conversion catch completed BCLUW's 14-7 victory over North Tama in Friday's Class A District 4 clash.

The visiting Comets (2-3, 1-1) ended a three-game skid, rallying back for the game-winning score with a 96-yard drive that reached the end zone.

Ubben finished 7-for-17 for 124 yards but with two interceptions. Garber's two catches went for 61 yards, and Runge had two grabs for 32 yards.

Running back Clarke Macy had 82 yards on 20 carries, reaching the end zone on a 9-yard run in the first quarter. Blake Cooper paced the Comet defense with 12 tackles and Lane Caster had an interception.

A 9-yard pass from Brody Hulme to Riley Rohach was North Tama's lone score. Hulme ended 14-for-27 for 111 yards.

Omar Martinez caught seven balls for 52 yards and was the leading rusher, carrying 12 times for 62 yards. Caden Stuart had three receptions for 40 yards for the Redhawks (1-5, 1-2).

Gilbert 35, South Hardin 6

GILBERT - Three turnovers were too much for South Hardin to overcome as the Tigers fell 35-6 to Class 2A District 7 foe Gilbert.

Sam Shindelar threw for 201 yards on 19-of-35 passing with no touchdowns and two interceptions. David Shindelar led the receiving corps with five catches and 62 yards, and Jordan Wilkie had five grabs for 55 yards. Bobby Hatton made four receptions for 59 yards.

Hunter Edgerton led the South Hardin defense with two interceptions and Wilkie had 11 tackles.

Gilbert QB Jared Gescheidler threw for 115 yards and one touchdown, ran for 54 yards and two scores. Gescheidler, the reigning defensive district co-MVP, also had 14 tackles and a 48-yard interception return for another TD.

Roland-Story 42, East Marshall 20

STORY CITY - Josiah Soderstrum ran 15 times for 170 yards and had three receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns, leading Roland-Story (2-3, 2-1) to a 42-20 victory over visiting East Marshall in Class 2A District 7 football.

No statistics were available for East Marshall (0-6, 0-2).
