BETTENDORF - A surprisingly fast start for Scott Community College set the Marshalltown men's soccer team back on its heels the last time these two Iowa Community College Athletic Conference clubs squared off.

This time around, however, there was no hesitation from the Tigers.

The MCC men scored first, last, and three times in between to beat the Eagles 5-0 in Wednesday's ICCAC Division I match to remain alone in second place in the conference standings.

The Tigers (10-3-1, 6-2-0) dominated play on the pitch once again with Scott (3-10-0, 2-6-0) but this time got the goals as a result. Hernan Lopez scored twice, Juan Carillo had a goal and an assist, and Celes Vilar tallied three assists as Marshalltown won its eighth straight against teams not named Iowa Western.

In MCC's last 10 outings, only the top-ranked Reivers (14-0-0, 7-0-0) have proven superior to the Tigers.

Carillo, Lopez and Bill Baye scored first-half goals for Marshalltown, and Vilar assisted on each of them as MCC erupted for a 3-0 halftime lead. The last time they lined up, the Eagles scored 2 minutes into the match and went into the intermission tied with the Tigers at 1-all.

Lopez opened the second-half scoring with his second tally of the game coming in the 49th minute, and John Krause chalked up his seventh goal of the season to round out the day's scoring in the 63rd minute.

Goalkeeper Julian Pena made one save and Andrew Waterfall also saw time in net for Marshalltown, which delivered its fifth shutout victory of the season. The Tigers got 19 shots on goal against Scott CC, which suffered its fifth consecutive shutout loss.

The Eagles have been outscored 31-0 since defeating Indian Hills 3-2 on Sept. 17.

MCC remains on the road for Saturday's conference match, traveling to Estherville to take on Iowa Lakes at 2 p.m. The Tigers won their first meeting, 4-2.
