A tree and bench dedication will be held in Polk City Sunday to honor the memory of Tyler Harris.

His father, Tom Harris, is hosting this celebration of life event at 4 p.m. at Lakeside Fellowship church property at 1121 West Bridge Road in Polk City.

Harris, who lived in Marshalltown with his mother Tina Eubanks and attended Marshalltown schools, died in August at the age of 13 after fighting cancer for several years.

"This is the celebrate Tyler's life in our community," Tom Harris said. "Just like he was loved in Marshalltown, he was loved here in Polk City as well."

Harris was first diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2007. Harris' life impacted many in Marshalltown as he bravely shared his struggle with his classmates, school staff and community through the years.

The tree will be planted in his honor, the bench dedicated, then a balloon send off of 50 balloons will be held.

Tom said Tyler's smile is what he misses the most about his son.

"So many people say they miss seeing that," he said.
