Our Savior Lutheran donates funds for Africa water project

October 19, 2013
John Reardon, left, of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marshalltown, is shown presenting a check for $2,100 to Greg Brown of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshalltown, to support the South Sudan Water Project. The funds will be applied to the Marshalltown Rotary Club’s $22,000 match requirement to secure a Rotary International grant of $78,000 awarded to provide clean water to villages in Old Fangak County, South Sudan, Africa. Funds will be applied toward purchase of equipment, transportation and training. Trinity Lutheran began spearheading the project in 2009, and since then, has secured partnerships with Rotary and five other central Iowa churches representing three denominations. $1,300 of the $2,100 award came from Our Savior’s recent Ice Cream Social and $800 was donated by several parishioners, Reardon said.
