FAMILY LIFE

Family: I am married to Jenalee Garcia and we have four children. Syler is our only son and is 12. Our daughters are Chasley 10, Elena 7, and Cici 3. Both my parents and my wife's parents live in Hutchinson.

Pets: Our large and lovable Maremma sheepdog is Penelope, joined by rabbits Oreo, Swifty, and Beyonce.

Hobbies and interests: Boating, running, golf, reading, board games and spending time with family and friends.

WORK

Occupation: Lead pastor at Bangor Liberty Friends Church.

What that means: I serve the people and communities around our church. I am blessed to have a job that is, basically, to love people and point them to the God of the universe, who loves them completely and unconditionally.

Tenure: I began August 2011.

Best part of the job: I recently received my M.A. and I am astonished at how the more I learn the more I realize how much I have yet to learn. My favorite part of school is taking home new things each day, not just from the teachers, but from everyone around me.

If I could change jobs I would: I have the best job in the world.

FAVORITES

Book: "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Movies: "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Foods: Authentic Mexican food - especially made by my grandmother

Sports: I'm a Kansas boy and have always been a Jayhawk. Football seasons are usually rough, but basketball always gives me something to cheer for.

COMMUNITY

Best part of living here: The people! You won't find more caring people anywhere in the world.

Most influential people: My college advisor, who directed the Master's program I completed. He truly has been one of the most influential. He is also a dear friend, and continues to be a mentor, counselor and a supporter to me and my ministry. I wouldn't be who I am or where I am without Dr. Dave Williams.

Local involvement: Our church strives to impact our communities with the love of Christ however we can. We enjoy serving the community together and love to interact with those served. Some of the things we've done include: yard cleaning, moving, repairs, serving at the House of Compassion, and simply "doing life" with people.

Also, some may remember my "Run for Redemption" fundraiser for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. I am thankful for all of you that sent support or offered words of encouragement and prayers. I was able to complete all three of the marathon-length runs and sent almost $2,000 to The One Fund for Boston. Thanks again for your help.

Advice on life: William Penn, who is an influential figure in the Friends church, once said, "If there is any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not deter or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again."
