Taxpayers shouldn’t fund insurance for self-employed

October 24, 2013
Dallas E. Wiese, Toledo , Times-Republican

Monday's Times-Republican had a front page picture with an Associated Press article concerning one Michael Weaver, shown with an expensive camera at a football game. Mr. Weaver is a self-employed photographer. He is applying for government assistance for purchasing health insurance under Obamacare. Evidently, his photography business does not produce sufficient income to pay his own way.

How many cases like this will my tax money go to under Obamacare? This seems like an opportunity for people to pursue a failing business instead of getting a job that would provide sufficient funds for him to afford his own health care expenses.

I fear people in like circumstances will develop a cash flow off the books and ask taxpayers to pay for their health insurance.
