Tiger netters make it a clean sweep

MOLINE, Ill. - Scraping out a close win in the opening set, the Marshalltown Community College volleyball team cruised through the next two for a three-game sweep of Black Hawk College in non-conference play Tuesday.

Picking up their third straight win, the Tigers (21-17) beat the Braves 26-24, 25-15, 25-18. Miranda Smith led MCC up front with 12 kills, four solo blocks and three block assists, while Katelyn Yauslin added 10 kills and a pair of block assists.

Sam Hinrichs dished out 25 assists and came up with eight digs. Libero Ashley Salgado recorded a team-best 13 digs, Reeba Box had 11 to go with five kills. Meghann Cole chipped in six kills and Emily Anker added nine digs. Hinrichs, Salgado, Anker and Mehlon Maxwell each had two aces as the Tigers totaled 11 overall.

MCC, which is 3-6 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Division II play, returns to conference action on the road against Southeastern CC (30-7, 6-3) tonight at 7 p.m. The Blackhawks received votes in the latest NJCAA poll.
