Authorities on Friday released the names of victims involved in a house explosion in rural Tama County.

Mary Louise Appelgate, 72, who lived at 1207 230th St., just west of Garwin, was pronounced dead on the scene. Her husband Bruce was not present during the time of the explosion.

Daniel David Dewitt, 29, a heating and cooling repairman, of Gladbrook, was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City for burn injuries.

The explosion happened around 9:30 a.m. Thursday and left the home completely destroyed.

Dennis Kucera, Tama County Sheriff said it is believed that Dewitt was working on a furnace repair during the time of the explosion, but the state fire marshal and the Gladbrook and Garwin fire departments are still investigating the exact cause.
