$20K in fake checks cashed locally

Warrants have been issued for four Nebraska men who cashed fraudulent checks to local banks in Marshalltown.

Bryan Delong, 21, Christopher Watters, 31 and Cedrick Hatten, 21 of Omaha, Neb. and Randy Spangler, 44 of Plattsmouth, Neb. were issued warrants Thursday for allegedly cashing $20,000 worth of fraudulent checks to banks across Marshalltown. The checks were fake payroll checks from Gethmann Construction.

According to police, the first bad check was cashed in early February and were sporadically cashed throughout the year. Each bad check was made out to one of the suspects.

The suspects are on warrant for ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony.

On Saturday, Maung Hlaing, 302 N. Fourth Ave., reported the theft of an Apple iPad, a Sony 13 laptop computer and a Samsung Galaxy tablet computer from his residence. Estimated value of loss was $1,100.

On Saturday, Deborah Ann Borton, 604 W. Linn St., reported rock damage to a glass window panel at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $150.

On Saturday, Max Leon Carkhuff, 415 E. Southridge Road, reported heavy damage to the driver-side hood on a car when it collided with a train cart at 1107 E. Main St. Estimated value of damage was $2,700.

On Friday, an employee with Sports Page, 2500 S. Center St., reported the theft of a Nike T-shirt, a hooded jacket and a LA Dodgers hat from the store. Estimated value of loss was $153.

On Thursday, Darrin Etienne Potter, 206 W. Grant St. Apt. #3, reported cut damage to two Uniroyal tires on a 1998 Dodge Dakota while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $300.

On Oct. 20, an employee with the YMCA, 108 Washington St., reported the theft of four tires and rims from a 1977 Ford F150 while parked at 705 S. Center St. Estimated value of loss was $1,000.

On Monday, Charles Vanetta, of Gilman, reported hit and run damage to the front end of a 2013 Ford Taurus while parked at 2800 S. Center St. Estimated value of damage was $1,252.

On Monday, an employee with Bank of America, of Plano, Texas, reported for a customer the theft of an air conditioner from 310 N. 13th Ave. Estimated value of loss was $2,800.

On Monday, an employee with Casey's General Store, 916 E. Main St., reported for a customer the theft of a Mirraco Pro bicycle. Estimated value of loss was $300.

Citations

On Thursday, Randy Dean Pitzer, 511 N. Second Ave., was cited for possession of a Scheduled I controlled substance-marijuana and prohibited acts.

Arrests

On Sunday, William Gary Mommer, of Gilman, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Sunday, Luis Antonio Puentes, of Montour, was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

On Sunday, Dewey Dale Wilfong III, of Chelsea, was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

On Saturday, Timothy Daniel Garrett, 406 N. 17th St., was arrested for operating while intoxicated-second offense and driving while barred.

On Saturday, Arthur Downs, 508 S. Sixth St., was arrested for possession of a Schedule I controlled substance-marijuana-third or subsequent offense and public intoxication.

On Friday, Peter Jon Peter, 501 1/2 N. Center St., was arrested for public intoxication.

On Thursday, Lawrence C. Briggs Jr., of Chicago, Ill., was arrested for theft-fifth degree and interference with official acts.

On Monday, Drew Jay Janssen, of Grundy Center, was arrested for violation of a domestic abuse order of protection from Grundy County.

On Monday, Scott Imsland, 404 N. Center St. Apt. #3, was arrested for public intoxication.

Accidents

On Friday, a car driven by Max Leon Carkhuff, 415 E. Southridge Road, was emerging from a private driveway onto a service road in the 10 block of East Main Street south of the City of Marshalltown Street Department and Ryerson, Inc. when it went around a truck and traffic director and collided with a train cart on the tracks in the intersection. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Carkhuff car was estimated at $2,500 while the train cart, belonging to the Union Pacific Railroad, received $200 damage to it's axle.

On Friday, a car driven by Amanda Kay Parks, 2722 130th St., was eastbound in the 1000 block of West Church Street when, due to dim headlights, it collided with a legally parked pickup. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Parks car was estimated at $4,000 while the legally parked pickup received an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Monday

Cody Westcott, 811 S. Seventh Ave., made an initial appearance on a operation without registration charge and a no insurance charge. He pleaded not guilty to both charges and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 10 in Magistrate Court.

Stephanie Lynn Tietje, address unknown, made an initial appearance through counsel, John Haney, on a possession of a Schedule I controlled substance charge. The preliminary hearing was waived.

Benito Luis-Garcia, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a striking unattended vehicle charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due within 30 days of today's date.

Sean Noel, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a probation violation charge. The probation revocation hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 20. Noel was released on his own recognizance.
