Donald Shrader, 96, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.
Funeral services for Don will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Public visitation will be one hour prior to the service where family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Don's name to his family. Donald C. Shrader was born on March 8, 1917, the son of Charles and Julia (Ruppenkamp) Shrader. Don attended Garwin High School graduating with the class of 1935. Don honorably served our country in WWII joining the Army Air Corp in 1942. He received one of the most honorable medals; the Bronze Star for his duties and bravery while in the Philippines. On November 12, 1947, Don was united in marriage to the love of his life Wanda Speas. They were married at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Don spent 22 years of his career working for Lennox before retiring in 1979. He was part of the American Legion Post 46 in Marshalltown as well as Garwin Post 9071 for 40 years. He had a passion for electronics, traveling, especially to Branson, MO, Colorado Springs and wintering in Florida. He also loved taking photos and movies of their vacations.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Wanda Shrader, brother in law; Clyde (Glenna) Speas, sister in law Maxine Speas and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Wendell Shrader.
