Wrapping up a second straight 14-win campaign, the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team had eight members recognized on the all-NJCAA Division I Region XI team.
The Tigers' Juan Carrillo, Bill Baye and Alex Galvan all attained first-team honors, while Ralph Duopu, John Krause and Roberto Velazquez were named to the second team. Sophomores Marcus Boehler and Hernan Lopez garnered honorable mention as the Tigers finished 14-4-1 this fall and earned the No. 2 seed in the Region XI tournament.
Carrillo, the team's leading scorer throughout the season, was one of just six freshmen named to the 15-player first team. The Cordoba, Spain, native finished second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference with 13 assists, 41 points and 14 goals on the year. Carrillo also ranked second nationally with eight game-winning goals.
Baye was a linchpin on the MCC defense that posted eight shutouts this season and allowed just 17 goals in 19 matches. The sophomore was a tri-captain this year and recorded three goals and three assists.
Galvan, a honorable mention pick in 2012, played an integral leadership role for the Tigers and chipped in one goal and two assists from the center midfield position.
Duopu served as another tri-captain and made 16 starts en route to three goals and three assists in his sophomore season. Krause, a freshman from Slater, was the team's second-leading scorer with nine goals and five assists. Velazquez returned from injury to help the Tigers down the stretch and contributed three goals and four assists in his sophomore campaign.
Lopez finished third on the team with six goals and Boehler added three goals and two assists.
Iowa Western, the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll and Region XI champs, had five members on the first team and 11 players recognized overall.
