IOWA CITY - Iowa sophomore point guard Samantha Logic has shown improvements to her offensive game through the first two contests of the season.
And her efforts have netted her the initial Big Ten Conference Women's Player of the Week. The announcement was made Tuesday by the conference office.
Logic scored a career-high 28 points against UC-Riverside in the season opener and then added her 13th career double-double in an overtime win over No. 14 Dayton in the championship game of the Hawkeye Challenge Sunday.
Logic was named Tournament MVP of the Challenge after averaging 22 points, 9.5 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Iowa won the team title and Logic was 4-of-5 from long range and 10-of-12 from the line.
The win over UC Riverside also saw Logic grab seven rebounds, deliver five assists and contribute three steals.
Logic added 16 points and 14 assists against the 14th ranked Flyers and her 3-pointer with 9 seconds to go in regulation tied the game and allowed the Hawkeyes to win it in overtime. The 14 assists equaled a personal best and Iowa school record and are the most in Carver-Hawkeye Arena history.
It was third career Player of the Week honor for Logic. The last Hawkeye to garner a weekly award was Jaime Printy on Jan. 29 of last season.
Iowa returns to action tonight, hosting Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
