Marshalltown Area Chamber awarded with 4-Star Accreditation

The United States Chamber of Commerce awarded the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce with 4-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures and positive impact on the community.

"Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community," said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber Executive Director of Political Affairs and Federation Relations. "We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise."

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs and technology. This extensive self-review can take six to nine months to complete.

"The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce has been accredited since 1973," said Chamber Vice President Lynn Olberding. "In 2008, the Chamber received the prestigious 4-Star rating and we are very proud to have maintained that designation with our 2013 application."

The application process includes sections on governance, human resources, finance, program development, government affairs, communications, facilities, technology and benchmarking. The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce received perfect scores in three of these nine sections: governance, facilities and benchmarking.

"We received special recognition for our efforts with our Total Resource Campaign, global familiarization trip to China, outreach to education, use of technology and outstanding communications efforts," Olberding said.

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars or 5-Stars. State chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

The Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce is located at 709 S. Center St. For more information, visit www.marshalltown.org or call 641-753-6645.
