The Marshall County Conservation Board wants public input on the future plans to add a campground at Green Castle Recreation Area south of Ferguson.

A public meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Grimes Farm Conservation Center. The board wants input on the designs and amenities planned for the campground.

"We want the campers to come out and let us know what is desirable in a campground today," said Mike Stegmann, director of the conservation board. "We want to make sure there's nothing we missed in the conceptual design."

A public meeting about the proposed campground at Green Castle Recreation Area will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grimes Farm Conservation Center.

Stegmann said Green Castle with all of its current amenities (lake, trails, bison exhibit, etc.) lends itself to the addition of a campground.

Since the decision to move forward with the campground at the park was made public several months ago, Stegmann said they have had overwhelmingly positive feedback.

"People locally want to camp locally," Stegmann said. "They want that 'staycation.'"

Stegmann said there is no concrete timeline for the project, as it will depend on the fundraising. They plan to seek donations and grants to help pay for the project.

He said part of the discussion will focus on if the project would be better served to be done in phases, especially due to the fact the total funding may not be available right from the start.
