When the better weather returns next year, a local park will have much more to offer than it did in the past.
Visitors at Lions Club Park on Iowa Avenue West in Marshalltown, have a new amenity to enjoy in the form of a new shelter house and picnic area.
The structure was completed this past October and was built for the park as part of an Eagle Scout project by East Marshall High School student Nick Fuller, along with several other scouts and volunteers.

This new shelter house was recently completed at Lions Club Park on Iowa Avenue West on the southwestern edge of Marshalltown.
The previous shelter house was damaged beyond repair by the July 2011 windstorm.
"It leveled it completely," said Garland Schossow, a member of the Noon Lions Club and a volunteer on the project.
The Noon Lion Club has made several other improvements in the past few years to update the park - even bringing in an old county bridge to allow for a walkway across the creek.
"Before it seemed to be a dying park," Schossow said. "People have taken some responsibility and pride in the park."
Schossow said they hope to get to a point where they can rent out the shelter to help with funds to maintain the park.
