The Marshalltown High School Athletic Department will host Veterans' Night at the Roundhouse on Friday as the Bobcat basketball teams take on Des Moines Roosevelt.
The school is inviting all veterans and any active member of the armed forces to join them as it recognizes the sacrifices that the military makes for the country.
The recognition of Richard Ortega will take place between the varsity girls and boys basketball games at around 7:15 p.m. Ortega is a veteran and current Woodbury Elementary teacher who recently returned from Afghanistan.
There will be free admission for any veteran and their spouse who would like to attend the games. Veterans are asked to enter the ticket gate on the east side of the Roundhouse and the north bleacher area will be reserved for all veterans to be seated and recognized as a group between games.
The MHS National Anthem Singers will present a special Armed Forces Salute, and the MHS pep band also will be performing patriotic songs throughout the night.
