TRENTON, Mo. - The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team turned a marginal halftime lead into a convincing win, whipping past Ancilla College 74-50 in Friday's opening game of the North Central Missouri College Classic.
The win is Marshalltown's sixth straight, helping the Tigers (8-1) continue the program's best start since the 2009-10 squad opened 15-1.
Kaleigh Sieck and Jasmin Howe had 18 points apiece to lead MCC to victory. Howe scored 14 of her points in the second half, going 5-of-7 from the field after the break.
Jamerka Martin, like Sieck, made three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points, while Ashley Salgado tallied nine points and six assists. Ilsie Calles scored all of her eight points in the first half, Mackenzie Gott chipped in six points and Danielle Montgomery four.
Ancilla (0-8) was limited to just 19 points in the second half and shot 31 percent from the floor in the game. The Chargers were 4-for-15 from 3-point range.
MCC closes out tournament play in Trenton, Mo., by meeting host North Central Missouri at 2 p.m. today.
