GIRLS HOOPS: South Hardin girls stay perfect, beat Mustangs

LE GRAND - A second-half spark was all South Hardin needed.

The Tigers broke free of a pesky East Marshall girls' basketball team with a 25-point third quarter, collecting their seventh win in as many tries this season with a 63-45 win in Friday's NICL West Division contest.

South Hardin (7-0, 3-0) led 27-22 at the break but got loose with a pair of 3-pointers to start the third period, and East Marshall (1-4, 1-2) never recovered.

Sarah Boomgarden led the Tigers with 16 points, Kassidy Bunger had 14 points and four rebounds, Kayla Prosser tallied 12 points and six rebounds, and Claire Damon contributed 11 points.

Taylor Fricke scored a team-leading 15 points to go with six rebounds for the Mustangs. Ashley Allen had 10 points, and Meriel Leavy chipped in nine points and seven boards. Madisen Hinegardner came off the bench to lead with three assists.

West Marshall 56, AGWSR 40

ACKLEY - West Marshall applied the pressure that proved too much for AGWSR in the second half, and Mackenzie Coberley made five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter of the Trojans' 56-40 win in NICL West Division action.

Coberley scored a career-high 21 points for West Marshall (3-4, 1-2), which netted its first league win. The Trojans led 21-19 at the half and outscored AGWSR 35-21 the rest of the way, including a 19-6 fourth-quarter edge.

Freshman Addie Wilkinson had a career-best 14 points to go with six rebounds, Gabby Reyerson had 10 points and six boards, and Rachel Freland added nine points and five steals for West Marshall. The Trojans get a rematch with Class 1A No. 3 Colo-NESCO at 5 p.m. today in Colo.

Madi Fryslie led AGWSR (2-4, 1-2) with 16 points, while Kim Ellingson and Alexa Johnson both tallied 10 points.

Colo-NESCO 59, GMG 21

COLO - Another fast start made for another easy finish for the Class 1A No. 3 Colo-NESCO girls' basketball team, which took down GMG 59-21 in Friday's Iowa Star Conference clash.

The Royals (6-0, 4-0) jumped out to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter, led 38-9 at the half and eased to the league win. Shayla Dean racked up 19 points, eight steals and seven assists, while Caitlyn Riese had 15 points and five rebounds.

Makaelyn Neuendorf added a season-best 10 points to go with five boards, while Madison Farren contributed four points and a team-leading nine rebounds for Colo-NESCO.

GMG (0-6, 0-3) got 11 points from Olivia Barritt, driven by three 3-pointers. Mikaella Koster and Caitlin Appelgate chipped in four points apiece.

North Tama 48, Waterloo Christian 35

TRAER - North Tama poured it on in the second quarter and captured a lead it would not surrender, beating Waterloo Christian 48-35 in Iowa Star Conference play.

The Redhawks (3-3, 3-1) outscored their guests 19-4 in the second to take a 24-6 halftime lead, and it was 41-23 going into the final frame. With its starters out, North Tama eased to the win.

Sam Zobel led the Redhawks with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Josie Youel had 10 points while Anna Kvidera tallied nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Jessi Jacobs chipped in eight points and four steals.

April Hall led Waterloo Christian (1-3, 1-3) with 15 points. Anna Doering had 10.
