WEST DES MOINES - Marshalltown senior Derek Mann went unbeaten and sophomore Josh Edel lost just once Saturday and the duo combined to take first and second, respectively, in their weight classes at the West Des Moines Valley/Johnston Invitational.
Mann, who is ranked No, 8 at 182, was 4-0 on the day at 170 pounds and improved to 8-1 on the season. Edel pushed his overall season record to 8-2 after finishing 2-1 at 160.
Other placewinners included senior Justus Bjelland (195) and junior Ben Rebik (182), who were both fourth, and fifth-place finisher Peyton Williams (152). Jordan Paone was sixth at 138.
Williams (8-4) was 3-2 on the day, while Rebik, Bjelland and Paone all went 2-2. Rebik is now 7-3 on the year, while Bjelland improved to 6-4.
The Bobcats took ninth as a team with 95 points but finished just three points behind Boone.
Third-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock took the team title with 237 points, while Cedar Rapids Jefferson was second at 198.
Valley was third with 174 points and Indianola (157), Johnston (157), Sioux City North (150) and Hampton-Dumont (108.5) rounded out the top seven teams in the standings.
Des Moines Roosevelt (76.5), Winterset (53) and Centerville (28) also competed in the tournament.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday when they travel to Dowling Catholic. Action starts at 6:30 p.m.
