WATERLOO - Marshalltown senior Derek Mann catapulted all the way to No. 2 in the latest rankings at 170 pounds this week.
He backed that ranking up with three wins at the Battle of Waterloo Tournament and the Bobcats won two of their three dual matches on the day.
Mann was the only Bobcat to go 3-0 as he improved to 11-1 on the season. Marshalltown beat Iowa City West 39-33, took down Waterloo East 40-33 and lost to Columbus Catholic 44-27.
The 2-1 record came a day after the Bobcats couldn't make it to Waterloo due to poor road conditions.
The Bobcats and Trojans split their first four matches, but Iowa City West couldn't overcome its two forfeits at 106 and 138. Both teams forfeited 220.
The match was even at 27-all after a pin by Mann and a win by decision from Ben Rebik. Justus Bjelland pinned his opponent at 195 to give MHS (2-5) a lead, but West tied it with a win at heavyweight.
The Bobcats won the match after the Trojans elected to forfeit the final match.
Marshalltown lost three of its first four matches against Waterloo East but recovered thanks to wins by Jordan Paone, Austin Baker, Mann and Rebik. Baker and Rebik both won by forfeit.
Mann earned another pin in his match against Columbus Catholic, but the only other win that wasn't by forfeit came from Bjelland as he won 11-9. Bitker and Jose Zaragoza each won by forfeit.
Mitch O'Hare, Rebik, Bjelland and Bitker all went 2-1 on the day.
Marshalltown is off until it hits the mat on Jan. 3 in Fort Dodge. The Bobcats face the Dodgers and Charles City beginning at 5:30 p.m.
