DES MOINES - Drake junior guard Jordan Daniels hasn't be eligible to play in a Bulldog uniform for very long but that didn't stop him from already making an impact last week.
After averaging 12 points and three assists in a pair of Bulldog wins, Daniels was named Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Daniels, a California native, transferred to Drake from Boston College and wasn't eligible to play until Dec. 14 but his efforts against IUPUI and Albany didn't go unnoticed. Daniels scored 13 of his 15 points against IUPUI in the second half. Against Albany, Daniels buried two early 3-pointers to give Drake a comfortable cushion and then put the Bulldogs up eight late in the contest with another triple.
Since joining the Bulldogs' lineup, Daniels is the team's second leading scorer at 14 points while shooting 57 percent from the floor and dishing out 4.3 assists per game.
Daniels and the Bulldogs begin MVC play on Wednesday when they host Evansville. Tipoff at the Knapp Center is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
